Angelina Kolevris
Angelina is a third-year undergraduate and intern at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), completing a Bachelor of Marine Biology and Climate Change.
Passionate about the ocean and environmental conservation, Angelina is particularly interested in understanding the many interconnected processes that support healthy marine ecosystems. During her studies, she has developed a strong interest in environmental conservation and in how community engagement and policy can contribute to protecting marine environments in a changing climate. After graduating, she hopes to explore how environmental policy can be used to actively protect marine life and the ecosystems they depend on.
Research
Angelina’s research focuses on the comparative allometry of beaked whales (Family Ziphiidae), using biological data collected from strandings along the coastlines of Australia and New Zealand. As part of her internship, she is analysing a 40-year dataset collected during mass-stranding events to investigate body proportions, ontogenetic growth, sexual dimorphism, and species-specific morphology. Her research uses these post-mortem measurements to improve our understanding of beaked whale morphology and comparative anatomy, with applications for taxonomic studies and body condition assessment.
