Marine Vertebrate Ecology Lab

We welcome enquiries from prospective Honours, Masters and PhD students interested in marine vertebrate ecology, health and conservation. As a small research group committed to providing high-quality supervision, we generally take on only one or two new research students each year.

 

Projects in the MAVE Lab can involve fieldwork, laboratory research, quantitative analysis, or a combination of approaches. Many of our projects are predominantly quantitative and computer-based, using existing datasets to answer important ecological and conservation questions, and do not involve fieldwork. Our research spans marine mammal ecology and health, population and movement ecology, human impacts on marine wildlife, and the development and application of quantitative approaches to conservation.

International applicants

Prospective international PhD students should be aware that scholarships for international applicants at UOW are highly competitive.

Applicants seeking scholarship support would normally be expected to have an excellent academic record and demonstrated research experience. As a general guide, we are unlikely to support an international scholarship application unless the applicant has at least one peer-reviewed publication and a strong research track record.
